Today’s comments relate to a close encounter with a bald eagle.

Was going to leave a comment about the “retreat” post, but couldn’t get logged in to that one. Was just going to say that retreats don’t have to be at a retreat center or Christian camp as wonderful as they are. Our family has done “retreats” at State and National park campgrounds, as well as forests. Notice, I didn’t say anything about commercial campgrounds because I really don’t like those as well.
The further away from “urbania” the better I like it. I dispense with anything electric with the exception of a battery powered flashlight. We spend the day hiking and sitting by a steam, birdwatching, or riding a bike. Then crawl into a sleeping bag and listen to the night sounds of crickets and cicadas and an occasional coyote.
Friends, that is re-creation of the first degree. Stress gives way to rest and the noise of the steets gives way to peace and quiet and the sounds of a mountain steam. Eye pollution gives way to wildflowers and a star lit night sky.
And these warmer days have me planning on a soon coming camping trip.
Hey, Dean, I love the blood stained beak of the eagle. I get to see them near our closest river about 8 miles from home. Wonderful!

You can see video of my eagle encounter on our local ABC station WZZM here.

Hey, I finally saw your video. Googled WZZM, and had to do a search on eagle, but there it was complete with passing autos, and was that an airplane I heard in the background?
Pretty neat for this tarheel to see your local Grand Rapids, Michigan station’s video you made.

They also had it on last night’s late news and this morning’s news report. That was an airplane you heard: the eagle was less than a quarter mile from the GR airport east/west runway. Would not want to suck that bird up in a jet engine—especially tomorrow when I fly out to the desert Southwest.
